During the Second World War, millions of Allied soldiers heard a strange voice on German radio. She spoke perfect American English, joked about home, and warned soldiers they would die far from their families.
Her name was Mildred Gillars — better known as “Axis Sally.” From Berlin she broadcast Nazi propaganda aimed at weakening the morale of American troops, including the infamous “Vision of Invasion” broadcast just weeks before D-Day.
After the fall of Nazi Germany, Gillars was captured and brought to the United States, where she stood trial for treason in one of the most unusual cases of the postwar era.
