Dutch Traitor Who Betrayed the Resistance to the Nazis: Anton van der Waals

Anton van der Waals was one of the most infamous traitors in the German-occupied Netherlands during the Second World War.
Born in Rotterdam, he joined the Dutch resistance while secretly working for the Sicherheitsdienst (SD), the intelligence branch of the Nazi SS. Pretending to be a patriot and courier, he betrayed resistance networks across the country, leading to arrests, executions, and the destruction of escape routes to Sweden.
After the war, he tried to work for Allied intelligence, but was arrested and brought to trial. In 1948 he was convicted of treason and held responsible for dozens of deaths. In 1950, he paid the highest price for his crimes.
