From decorated SS cavalry commander to one of the most notorious perpetrators of Nazi atrocities, Hermann Fegelein built his career through loyalty, ambition, and mass murder. During the invasion and occupation of Poland, his mounted SS units took part in executions of civilians, while on the Eastern Front they massacred thousands of Jews and other civilians under the guise of anti-partisan warfare.
Protected by Heinrich Himmler despite corruption, theft, and abuse allegations, Fegelein rose into Adolf Hitler's inner circle and strengthened his position by marrying Gretl Braun, the sister of Eva Braun, making him Hitler's brother-in-law. But as the Third Reich collapsed, he abandoned the Führerbunker and attempted to flee Berlin. Branded a traitor after Himmler's secret peace negotiations with the Allies came to light, Fegelein was court-martialed on Hitler's orders and executed just two days before Hitler's own suicide. This documentary traces the rise and fall of one of the Third Reich's most opportunistic and ruthless SS generals.
