In June 1942, just weeks after the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, Nazi Germany unleashed a wave of terror across the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Following the betrayal of the Czechoslovak resistance network, the small village of Ležáky was erased from the map. Thirty-seven adults were murdered, eleven children were killed in Chełmno, and only two children survived after being selected for Germanization.
