Hilde Wernicke and Helene Wieczorek were among the central perpetrators at the Meseritz-Obrawalde psychiatric hospital, where thousands of mentally and physically disabled patients were murdered under Nazi rule. Wernicke, a senior physician, selected around 600 patients for death, while head nurse Wieczorek supervised nurses involved in the killings and personally administered lethal injections. Victims were killed with lethal doses of barbiturates administered by injection or mixed into food, while official records concealed their true causes of death. When Soviet forces approached in 1945, Wernicke and Wieczorek fled west but were later arrested and brought to trial in Berlin. Both were convicted of hundreds of murders, sentenced to death, and executed by guillotine on 14 January 1947.
