Dries Riphagen was one of the most notorious Dutch collaborators of the Second World War. Known as the “Dutch Al Capone,” the Amsterdam gangster exploited the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands to enrich himself through betrayal, theft, and the persecution of Jews.
Working with the Nazi Sicherheitsdienst (SD), Riphagen helped track down Jews in hiding and locate their money and valuables. He also became involved with the infamous Henneicke Column, a group of criminals and collaborators paid to hunt Jews, thousands of whom were subsequently deported to extermination camps.
After the war, Dutch authorities sought Riphagen for his wartime activities and suspected him of responsibility for the deaths of at least 200 people.
This documentary examines Riphagen’s collaboration with Nazi Germany and the story of the man feared as the “Dutch Al Capone.”
