Jozef Gabčík, a young paratrooper trained in exile, returned home with a single, impossible mission — to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich, the ruthless “Butcher of Prague.”
Together with Jan Kubiš, Gabčík carried out one of the most daring acts of resistance in World War II — Operation Anthropoid. Their ambush struck at the core of Nazi power but unleashed savage reprisals, including the annihilation of the villages Lidice and Ležáky. Cornered in a Prague church, Gabčík chose death over capture, his courage forever etched in the nation’s memory.
