Russian Nazi Collaborator Behind Thousands of Deaths in Warsaw: Ivan Frolov
13m
Ivan Frolov was a former Red Army officer who became one of the leading commanders of the Russian National Liberation Army, better known as RONA or the Kaminski Brigade. After being captured during the German invasion of the Soviet Union, he joined the collaborationist force and rose to become one of Bronislav Kaminski’s most trusted officers.
In August 1944, Frolov led around 1,700 RONA troops into Warsaw’s Ochota district during the Warsaw Uprising. Instead of concentrating on the Polish resistance, his men unleashed widespread violence against civilians, carrying out murders, robberies, looting, and sexual violence. Thousands of residents were driven from their homes, while more than 1,000 people died at the notorious Zieleniak camp from executions, beatings, starvation, and disease.
After Nazi Germany’s defeat, Frolov was captured, handed over to Soviet authorities, and prosecuted for his wartime actions. On 31 December 1946, Ivan Frolov was executed at the age of 40.
