In March 1944, one of the worst massacres in wartime Croatia unfolded beneath Mount Kamešnica. During a brutal anti-Partisan operation, soldiers of the notorious 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division "Prinz Eugen" and the 369th Infantry Division swept through Croatian villages, murdering thousands of civilians. Women, children, and the elderly were machine-gunned, burned alive inside their homes, and executed without mercy. Entire villages were reduced to ashes in one of the bloodiest atrocities committed in Dalmatia during the Second World War.
This documentary examines the German invasion of Yugoslavia, the occupation of Dalmatia, the rise of Partisan resistance, and the events that led to the Kamešnica massacre. It also follows the fate of the perpetrators after the war, including the capture and execution of SS commander August Schmidhuber, the destruction of the Prinz Eugen Division, and the postwar justice that awaited some of those responsible for these crimes.
